FIFA World Cup: An Introduction
The FIFA World Cup is the final round of a competition held every four years. The competition is open to each FIFA national association, and nearly two years of playoffs brings the field down to 32 teams. The World Cup is the most-watched sporting event in the world.
Tournament Format, and how we play the Prediction game
There are eight groups of four teams each, with the top two teams qualifying for single-game knockout play. Each team plays each other once in the group stage, for a total of three games. Teams earn 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw.
Your assignment, in the group stage, is to pick the finishing order of each group. Your score will be based on how close you are to predicting the correct order and also whether you chose the correct two teams to qualify for the next round.
In subsequent rounds, your task will be to pick the winning team and the number of goals that will be scored by both teams in each matchup.

Entry and Group Stage: Saturday, November 19 22:00 Pacific Time
Round of 16: Friday, December 2 22:00 Pacific Time
Quarter-finals: Thursday, December 8 22:00 Pacific Time
Semi-finals: Monday, December 12 22:00 Pacific time
Third-place tiebreaker: Friday, December 16 22:00 Pacific Time
Final: Saturday, December 17 22:00 Pacific Time
