Max Verstappen secured his maiden World Championship with victory in the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton finishing second as the race ended in a nail-biting one-lap sprint after a late Safety Car. The result, which saw Valtteri Bottas finish sixth and Sergio Perez retire, means Mercedes have clinched a record eighth consecutive constructors’ championship.

Top Point Drives of the Day

  1. Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri-Honda): 35 points, finishing as part of an AlphaTauri 4-5 after qualifying P12
  2. Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing-Honda): 29 points, winning the race after leading only during the final lap in a day-long chase after Lewis Hamilton
  3. Yuki Tsunoda (AlphaTauri-Honda): 26 points, earning his best-ever finish in fourth to cap his first Formula 1 season

Our Game

Congratulations to John Lo upon his first Formula 1 Prediction Challenge win! John cruised to an easy victory, taking the season lead after the fourth race and finishing well over 100 points over his closest rival.

Wes earned second place on the season, while Ian’s strong showing in the season’s final race earned him third, just ahead of Danielle. Ian has earned a prize in each of the four years of the F1 Prediction Challenge!

🏁 Hamilton Draws Level on Points in Controversial Debut Race at Jeddah Corniche Circuit

December 5, 2021

image-1

Lewis Hamilton won a controversial debut Saudi Arabian Grand Prix from pole position ahead of Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas amid two red-flag stoppages. The result means the two championship protagonists go to the Abu Dhabi finale level on points.

Top Point Drives of the Day

  1. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes): 29 points, thanks to the pressure put on title rival Max Verstappen, winning from P3
  2. Carlos Sainz Jr. (Ferrari): 26 points, earning 8th place points after a poor P15 qualifying
  3. Max Verstappen Red Bull Racing-(Honda): 25 points, earning second place from P3 qualifying

Our Game

John Lo extended his lead further with 155 of a possible 166 points and looks unassailable entering the last race of 2021 next week. All players second through fifth in the standings will have to wait for Abu Dhabi as their Saudi Arabia predictions were identical. Wes and Danielle hold down the last two prize spots, while Ian and John Cavelti can still aim for podium glory.

Saudi Arabian Grand Prix Predictions

December 4, 2021

Formula 1 2018

We are essentially of the same mind this week. While there are six rows in play, four of them are due to outlier selections from Doug, John Lo and Michael and will likely not affect our standings. The close title race and the even closer track walls will have to create all the tension in this round!

Good luck, and enjoy the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix!

🏁 Hamilton Delivers Lights-to-Flag Performance at Losail

November 21, 2021

image-6

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton has closed the gap to title rival Max Verstappen following a dominant victory in the inaugural Qatar Grand Prix at the Losail International Circuit, with Verstappen recovering from a grid drop that saw him start P7 to finish second, as Alpine’s Fernando Alonso took the final podium position.

Top Point Drives of the Day

  1. Sergio Pérez (Red Bull Racing-Honda): 37 points, coming back from a poor Q2 session to finish on Grand Prix Sunday
  2. Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing-Honda): 33 points, doing his best after a grid penalty to keep pace with Lewis Hamilton
  3. Lance Stroll (Aston Martin-Mercedes): 26 points, earning 6th place from P12 qualifying

Our Game

Ian’s top score (earning best points in just 5 of 9 scoring rows on what was a tricky race to predict) has helped him move into 4th place and within clear striking distance of the podium with two races still to take place. John Lo’s lead looks safe for the season, while only 24 points separate Wes in second place and John Cavelti in fifth.
