Alpine team mates Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon now have another thing in common: They both won their debut F1 races in Hungary, driving for the team from Enstone. And after his shock victory, Ocon gave his heartfelt thanks to the Spaniard for his heroic rear-gunner performance at the Hungaroring, crediting the two-time champion for helping him win his first car race of any kind since 2015.

Top Point Drives of the Day

  1. Carlos Sainz Jr. (Ferrari): 40 points, for a podium finish after starting 16th
  2. Esteban Ocon (Alpine-Renault): 33 points, earning the chequered flag from the 4th row on the grid
  3. Nicholas Latifi (Williams-Mercedes): 24 points, a season best, finishing 7th from a 9th row starting position

Our Game

Thank you for your patience as I awaited race results to be posted at Formula1.com. I realize now that the protest of Sebastian Vettel’s disqualification was resolved Sunday but it took an e-mail to their webmaster Monday night by yours truly to update their Race Results Page. ~ Michael

Michael was set to capture the best score on the day. However, Sebastian Vettel’s disqualification resulted in John Cavelti earning top marks in this eventful race, having the better driver in eight of 10 rows. John Lo, Wes and Danielle turned in respectable cards, as well, as they continue to hold down the top three spots in our game.

July 18, 2021

image-3

Lewis Hamilton overcame first lap contact with title rival Max Verstappen and a 10-second penalty to take an eighth British Grand Prix win at Silverstone, passing Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc – who led the majority of the race – with just three laps of the race to go, as the second Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas took P3.

Top Point Drives of the Day

  1. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes): 26 points, benefiting from his first-lap aggression towards pole-sitter Max Verstappen
  2. Lance Stroll (Aston Martin-Mercedes): 26 points, finishing 8th after finishing 14th in the Sprint Qualifying
  3. Charles Leclerc (Ferrari): 24 points, earning second place after leading in 50 of the race’s 52 laps

Our Game

John Lo has earned best marks three of the last four Grands Prix, and benefited greatly by being the sole player to back Lewis Hamilton in this race on British soil. Wes and Danielle’s good scores continue to move them away from the rest our game’s pursuing players, as well.

Just like last week, seven rows are in play with the feature duel again in Row 2, this time with Sergio Pérez and Lewis Hamilton drawing roughly equal interest. Former Ferrari teammates Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc in Row 7 and the two Alfa Romeo-Ferraris (driven by Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Räikkönen) could similarly have a big effect on our game.
